Born and educated in Glasgow's East end, Lorna's career spans 30 years, initially qualifying in 1981 with her first degree in Physical education from the Dunfermline college of P.E. Lorna retrained asa physiotherapist at Queens College in Glasgow, qualifying in 1992 with a B.Sc. (Dist) in Physiotherapy. After starting her own business with a physiotherapy home visiting service Lorna established the Birchtree Clinic in 1998.
